I am trying to install a new module in PowerShell "Install-Module -Name PowerShellGet -RequiredVersion 2.2.5 -Force" but I got this error

PS C:\Windows\system32> Install-Module -Name PowerShellGet -RequiredVersion 2.2.5 -Force
NuGet provider is required to continue
PowerShellGet requires NuGet provider version '2.8.5.201' or newer to interact with NuGet-based repositories. The NuGet
 provider must be available in 'C:\Program Files\PackageManagement\ProviderAssemblies' or
'C:\Users\praven\AppData\Local\PackageManagement\ProviderAssemblies'. You can also install the NuGet provider by
running 'Install-PackageProvider -Name NuGet -MinimumVersion 2.8.5.201 -Force'. Do you want PowerShellGet to install
and import the NuGet provider now?

First, you should be aware of the PowerShell Gallery has deprecated Transport Layer Security (TLS) versions 1.0 and 1.1 as of April 2020 and the TLS 1.2 is set to be the default for the PowerShell Gallery.

So to solve "No match was found for the specified search criteria and provider name 'NuGet'", you will need to upgrade or change the security protocol to TLS1.2 by doing the following:

Steps

  1. Open Windows PowerShell As Administrator.
  2. Run the below cmdlet to change the security protocol to TLS1.2

     [Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol = [Net.SecurityProtocolType]::Tls12

  3. Now run the below cmdlet to update to PowerShellGet

     Install-Module -Name PowerShellGet -RequiredVersion 2.2.5 -Force

  4. You may need to close, reopen the Windows PowerShell Again as Administrator again.
