Question

Is it possible to install SharePoint Server on Windows Core?

I installed a windows server 2016 core and I need to install SharePoint 2016 on it, How Can I do that?

Is it possible to install SharePoint Server on Windows Core?

As a short answer, it's not possible to install SharePoint Server on Windows Core for all SharePoint Versions.

However, it's supported to install Windows Core installations for SQL Server that used within SharePoint Farm.

• Windows Server 2016 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience).
• Windows Server 2019 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience).

Supported Windows Server for SharePoint 2016

• Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience).
• Windows Server 2016 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience).
• Windows Server 2019 Standard or Datacenter (Desktop Experience).

Supported Windows Server for SharePoint 2013

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Standard, Enterprise, or Datacenter.
• Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter.

• Windows Server 2016 RTM is not supported for SharePoint 2013.
• Windows Server 2012 R2 is only supported on a SharePoint Server 2013 Service Pack 1.

Supported Windows Server for SharePoint 2010

• Windows Server 2008 SP2.
• Windows Server 2008 R2.

Supported Windows Server for SharePoint 2007

• Windows Server 2003 SP 1.

Note:
- All SharePoint versions are only supported on a 64-bit server.
