Power AutomateWhat's Microsoft Power Automate Desktop?

Microsoft Power Automate is a public cloud-based automation platform (online workflow service) that helps individuals and teams easily create automated workflows and integrate common apps and services.

One of the flow types in Microsoft Power Automate is Microsoft Power Automate Desktop (which was previously UI flows) that offers robotic process automation (RPA) capabilities to easily automate time-consuming manual work as well as the very old legacy systems that don't have APIs through UI-based automation (no coding required).

At Microsoft Ignite in 2019, Microsoft first introduced RPA in Power Automate and rebranded Microsoft Flow to become Microsoft Power Automate as a part of  Microsoft Power Platform.

Microsoft Power Automate Desktop Features

  • Automate anything from your desktop through UI-based automation (no coding required).
  • Use the desktop and web recorders to build flows while editing the recorded actions in real-time across the web or desktop.
  • Organize your flows logically with the visual designer, while using desktop and web recorders to capture the core logic of your automation.
  • Create flows faster using a diverse set of prebuilt actions that connect to many different systems including SAP, websites, and even legacy terminals and mainframes.
  • Review automatically saved centralized logs that include detailed information for every execution run, plus screenshots of errors for any troubleshooting.
